Worldwide IT Systems Major Incident

You may have seen on the news that there is a major incident which is affecting IT systems worldwide.  Although it seems that most Microsoft applications seem to be working, you may see issues with other applications which will stop you from accessing your key systems.  We have seen problems this morning with applications which use backbone software that is reliant on other companies who have been affected by this outage.  This does mean that unfortunately you could see issues with software provided by other companies until the wider issue is resolved.  This could present itself as error messages or systems just not loading when trying to access.

The following information is taken from Microsoft’s major incident website:

Current status: We’re continuing to progress on our mitigation efforts for the affected Microsoft 365 apps and services. We still expect users to see remediation as we address residual impact.

Scope of impact: This issue may be impacting any user attempting to use various Microsoft 365 apps and services.

Start time: Thursday 18 July 2024 at 22:56 BST

Preliminary root cause: A configuration change in a portion of our Azure backend workloads, caused interruption between storage and compute resources which resulted in connectivity failures that affected downstream Microsoft 365 services dependent on these connections.
