Mobile Device Management for Office 365

Mobile Device Management for Office 365

What is Mobile Device Management for Office 365?

Mobile Device Management (MDM) for Office 365 can help you secure and manage mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and Windows Phones used by licensed Office 365 users in your organization. You can create mobile device management policies with settings that can help control access to your organization’s Office 365 email and documents for supported mobile devices and apps. If a device is lost or stolen, you can remotely wipe the device to remove sensitive organizational information. And what is more, this is all available as part of your school's standard Office 365 without the need to purchase any additional subscriptions or add-ons.

Tell Me A Bit More About MDM For Office 365

One of the great things about Office 365 is that it allows you to work from anywhere and on virtually any device; for example from your phone while on the train, or using your iPAD while sat at home. This can make your staff much more productive, helping them to work more flexibily, and collaborate and communicate better. However, the possible downside to all this increased access is that the risk of personal or important data being lost, or falling into the wrong hands, goes up. If your staff are accessing their e-mail on their own phones, can you be sure that access to that phone, and the e-mails on it, are protected by an access code or PIN. And if that phone is lost, can you do anything to enusre that those e-mails don't end up being read by someone else? Well, with MDM for Office 365 you can.

By using MDM for Office 365 you can:

  • Require a strong passcode on all mobile devices accessing Office 365.
  • Enforce timeouts and lock screens on devices.
  • Require data encryption on devices.
  • Prevent jailbroken phones from connecting.
  • Wipe a device if it is lost or stolen.

And most importantly if a mobile deivce doesn't meet the requirements of the policy then you can block it from accessing Office 365.

What About Other MDM Solutions?

Just to be clear, Office 365 Mobile Device Management is not a full MDM solution. It is a very useful free feature that is available to increase basic security, and is aimed primarily at mobile devices such as phones and tablets, not laptops or computers. If you need a full MDM solution then you can either opt for our Mobile Guardian Solution, ideal for iPADs, mobile phones or Chromebooks, or if you need to manage Windows 10 Devices in the classroom there is Intune for Education.
